Who Are We?

City Gates Pray is celebrating 10 years of prayer mobilization this year. We are a group of committed Christians who long to share the love and compassion of Christ to others, as we prayer-walk. We are expanding and continuing last year’s prayer theme, which was based on Philippians 2:3. This year our theme is 1 Peter 3:8, which encourages us to be like minded, with compassion, and to love one another. When I think about the compassion of Christ, it compels me to go deeper in my heart cleansing. Can we as a church go beyond feelings of sympathy and pity? Can we actually extend mercy towards others with true compassion by “rejoicing with those that rejoice and weeping with those that weep” (Romans 12:15)? Our motto is “Prayer in Motion, Love in Action”, meaning we want to do more than just pray. We want to demonstrate love through action by reaching out to those in need, by sharing the love of Christ and meeting their physical needs as well.

Through the years we have demonstrated Love in Action by sharing the goods news of Christ, feeding those who are hungry, as well as offering resources to those in need. This year we hope to emulate the life of Christ by walking in humility, without vainglory, and valuing others as better than ourselves (Philippians 2:3). Peter Kroll spoke of the metaphor of a bruised reed from Isaiah 42:3. “Bruised reeds are people who are broken and needy, people worn out and tired and exhausted with life’s circumstances, people neglected by the world, but accepted by Jesus.” He goes on to say, “We rightly marvel at Jesus’s deep compassion. We rightly delight in his commitment to the down-and-out of society, and we rightly long to imitate his works of service and provision. We rightly praise the one who brought hope and healing to those who had none.” For our team at City Gates Pray, this is our mission.

We can do this together and make a difference in the lives of others. Are you with us? Come pray with us.
